New Orleans native Alvertha Bratton Penny, retired in 2014 after serving as the first Black woman President & CEO of The Community Foundation of South Alabama. Before joining The Community Foundation of South Alabama, she spent nearly two decades leading philanthropic efforts in California in the roles of Senior Vice President of Programs at California Community Foundation and Program Officer for Family and Community Development at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Alvertha is also a former board member of ABFE and Foundation for Louisiana.
